This movement was swimming, literally in... Something. I'd say oil, but I fear it may be WD-40, absolutely the worst thing that can happen to a watch.
These first pictures are "before" images. As you can see this is another one where the top of the pallet bridge has been permanently filed off to lower it, rather than fixing the out of level balance. There are also numerous divots and tool marks under the balance cock, assuring that it may never quite sit exactly right again.

 Broken mainspring...

This one was hard to get a good initial timing on, also the beat was way off and seemed to defy adjustment. The real problem was that the hairspring collet needed to be tightened (dirt was probably holding it on).
This movement is a grade 315 Elgin, 12 size, 15 jewels, made about 1915.
This one turned out pretty clean in the end. The broken mainspring was the only real problem, in spite of the other misadventures.
