Elgin Grade 103

Why Get a Watch Serviced?

This movement is not an atypical example of watch watches look like inside before servicing. In fact, watches that look like this inside are often described as "running fine".
But I'm sure the potential for problems is clear. The grit and dirt mixed with old oil is highly abrasive, right in all the moving parts. As a watch tick, it grinds away, wearing down everything, until what once may have been perfectly good components, are ruined.
This movement is an Elgin grade 103, G.M. Wheeler model. It is an 18 size, 15 jewel, product, lever-set and stem wind.

It was made about 1895

The gold flashed index on the micro-regulator is a nice touch, along with the gold jewel bezels.
The crown does not snap out on this type of case. There is a screw in the neck, the lower part of which blocks a shoulder in the stem and hold it, and the crown, in and on.
