Hello! I found your blog because I just dropped a family Elgin pocket watch and broke the plastic crystal. The watch works but I would love to know more about it and replace the crystal. Would you be able to help or point me in the right direction, please? I can’t find your email address yet but am happy to send you photos.

Like other American watch companies, in general Elgin did not manufacture pocketwatch cases. Cases and movements were selected separately by the buyer. Crystals thus are not standardized parts and not Elgin parts. There are many, many sizes and configurations varying in the profile of the edge, the diameter, the clearance under the glass and the height. Your best bet is to contact a place that specializes in crystal and thus has a large amount on hand to pick from for the best fit for your case/movement combination.
