Job Number 220040

This one started off with a couple issues right off. First, the center wheel pinion was detached from the wheel. It's not a hard part to come up with for replacement, but it is also not a difficult repair. I just fixed it. I really try hard to use all the original parts if I possibly can.
Next, this hairspring looks pretty bad. It could just be old oil sloppily applied, or magnetism, or both. Cleaning it will reveal if there is any damage or not.

So far, reattach center pinion, replace mainspring and replace upper 3rd wheel jewel. I think that will do it. I just don't know why smaller Elgin movements are always in such poor condition.

It's always a pain too replace the mainsprings in small Elgins also. It seems like none of my (three) winder sets provide exactly the right size.

The hairspring cleaned up fine. No actual damage at all. The pivots and roller jewel look just fine also.

The movement ran, sluggishly, right away, it needed more work clearly.
I made a couple minor adjustments, adjusted the beat, and replaced a missing case screw. It's running quite well so far. Ready for a few day of testing...
