This Elgin is a grade 291, 16 size, 7 jewels, made about 1908.
I am experimenting with something new in these photos. The inside, the train, is illuminated with a tiny chip LED. If I can get this refined, on many watches, this should give a pretty nice effect.
Replacement bow and crystal, and it's running nicely. Unfortunately, this is one of those watches that my timing machine won't lock onto for a preliminary reading, to see that it's in the ballpark. This is inspite of the fact that the escapement is quite solid. Listening carefully, it has some "ringing" from impacts and a "singing" hairspring. If anything these are good signs for the watch, but the machine won't work. I will have to test the rate solely by running the watch.
