Tightening a hand is a common task for vintage watches. This is an hour hand. The stake has a bell-shaped hollow tip. The method for minute hands is a little different.
It takes some practice to get a feel for the amount of force needed in the tap of a hammer on the stake to press the sides of the hour hand "boss" inward just the right amount. Don't want to over due, or you then have a different problem...
This is a Hamilton 16 size, 21 jewels, lever-set, made about 1923.
