Victorian Era Ladies Fashion and Watches

There are two photos in this set that show clearly how ladies wore watches in this era. I am often asked (quite a lot) about wearing an antique watch on a necklace. The fact is that this is not a good idea as the watches are not designed for the swinging and knocking around that they'd get on a necklace - a watch would be likely damaged. And in fact they were not worn that way originally, for that reason.

There were also blouses with small watch pockets, much like a men's vest pocket, but high up on the chest, for use with a short watch chain. But the broach style is more common.
