Reader Tells of Method To Safeguard Against Fire

Editor, The American Horologist:

Familiar as you are with the nature of horologists and their constant search for new media and methods, you often hear of accidents caused by fire, due to flammable solutions in cleaning machines.

I am one of those would-be chemists! I try every possible solution of which I hear and mix components of these solutions. I cannot report to you of the perfect cleaning medium but think that a preventive arrangement against fires will help many people who, as in my case experiment wisely or otherwise, with flammable matter in the cleaning machines.

As the picture suggests, an automatic fire-extinguisher, over the machine, suspended by an arm will safeguard the most reckless of "scientists." I use one produced in Littleton, Colorado- Red Comet by name.
